$$$$GOOD EVENING-OOPS MAKE THAT GOOD VERY EARLY SUNDAY MORNING- TO ALL MY WEATHER WEENIE FRIENDS OUT THERE ACROSS THIS GREAT LAND OF OURS$$$$ Why the use of the dollar sign. In case you are new, I rarely use those symbols here in-weather discussion? Here is why: A MAJOR, PROLONGED, AND POSSIBLY COSTLY WINTER STORM IS ABOUT TO ATTACK THE NORTHERN MID-ATLANTIC AND THE NORTHEAST UNITED STATES. First of all-Today, Sunday, will be OK. It will be WINDY and COLD but at least dry. Tomorrow Monday will be dry, for most of the daylight hours. Changes though lurking as Monday wears on. OVERALL STORM PROGNOSTICATION: #1) TIMING- some drizzle or snizzle later Monday/Monday night. Main storm, in some fashion-VERY EARLY TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY or into SATURDAY...(yes I wrote that) #2) PRECIPITATION AMOUNTS-As stated above drizzle until WEE hours Tuesday then VERY HEAVY precip into the wee hours Wednesday. A break during Wednesday. Then from Wednesday late afternoon into early Saturday off and on periods of light to moderate precip. #3)PRECIPITATION TYPE-Everyone PLEASE understand I am not going to throw #s at you, or specific types of precip when this storm is so complex we might not know until Monday or even early Tuesday!!!! For now, best guess-ZONE 1) SNOWSTORM: eastern PA/NW JERSEY/Catskills/Mid-Hudson Valley/Taconics/Berskhires northward. ZONE 2) A REAL MESS/TRICKY/COULD GO EITHER WAY/ALL SORTS OF POSSIBILITIES: Interior northern Jersey/Orange/Dutchess/Litchfield /northern/Rockland/Putnam. ZONE 3) A REAL MESS BUT LEANING TOWARDS MORE WATER THAN ICE/SNOW FOR THE HEAVIEST PART. THEN GOING OVER TO SOME DECENT SNOWS LATER: Rockland/central and northern Westchester/northern Fairfield/northern New Haven/north-central Jersey. ZONE 4) SOME SNOW/SLEET/ICE TO START BUT MOSTLY RAIN TILL THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS. THIS ZONE CAN ALSO GET SOME SNOW OUT OF THE STORM THE LAST DAY OR TWO: Long Island/Coastal-southern Westchester/coastal Ct./Jersey shore/NYC..... #4) WIND-Not quite as worried as before. Still, however, need to watch the Jersey shore and maybe north shore of LI. East/northeast winds will gradually shift to the north, even northwest in some areas..wind speed will be VERY HIGH on Tuesday, then diminish... #5) A PLEAD- People PLEASE understand this storm can range from people saying on Friday/Saturday of next week; where is all the snow? to people being w/o power for a few days....! A BETTER HANDLE BY TONIGHT? YOU BET. ANOTHER UPDATE TONIGHT? YOU BET. Do not forget todays weather: WINDY and cold....!!!! IMAGES: EUROPEAN model Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday evening.. My updated map... EUROPEAN model snow totals...I should not show these kind of maps...why do I???? QUESTIONS?
