:) ***GREYHOUNDS ONLY SAFETY TIP #3*** :) Always use a martingale style collar, and make sure it fits your greyhound correctly! A greyhounds neck is typically wider than its head, so these soft-choke style martingale collars are essential so that when you pull the leash (which is attached to the large D-ring on the control loop), the collar tightens around the neck just behind the ears so it doesnt slip off. 1) You basically want to adjust the collar tight enough around the neck that it can *JUST* come off when loosened all the way. Make sure it can be removed over the head without pulling your dogs ears off, but you dont want it any looser than that! ;) 2) Plus, when you pull on the leash and tighten the collar around the neck just behind the ears, there should be at LEAST 1-2 of space between the two rings that attach the control loop to the collar. Those rings should never touch! If they do, the collar is too large for your dogs neck. Check periodically to make sure the collar hasnt loosened. This is especially important with new nylon collars, which tend to be slippery. (If you have a very feisty greyhound, you may wish to consider a harness instead of a collar. Please contact us if you have any questions about harness use! We have 2 different styles available in our online store.) Always call us right away at 847-421-9828 if your greyhound gets loose! Thank you! [We will be posting a series of safety tips over the next week or so. Thank you for reading, and please share!]
