#GRRNT loves a happy reunion! Story below. * The best thing to do if you find a stray pet without tags on is to take it to a vet to get it scanned for a microchip. Any vet can scan for a microchip at no cost and most will hold the dog if the owner can be contacted to come and get the dog. **Note that even if your pet is microchipped the chips can move over time. Always have a vet or shelter scan the entire dog, just in case. ***At your annual visit make it a habit to have your vet scan for the chip to see if it has moved. As dogs grow and gain or lose weight the chip can shift. The first picture was sent to GRRNT and also posted on Facebook by a concerned citizen in far north Texas this week. He’d seen her around his area for a couple of days. He posted about her on Facebook but couldn’t take her in while searching for her owners, so he called us to see if we could help. He was able to catch her and GRRNT went to get her. The first step was to get her to the vet and scan for a microchip. Sadly she had no microchip. GRRNT’s next step was to check with animal control in the area she was found to see if there were any lost dogs reported matching her description. Animal Control said no. This girl was incredibly lucky though. Her family saw her rescuer’s post on Facebook that had been making the rounds at that point. They were able to contact him and then us. They had been looking for her for two weeks. It was a very happy reunion when we were able to reunite them.
