[Gabby] FYI for our Paleo visitors on this wall who are confused. Dietitians do not advocate fad diets. We do not even make up the food pyramid either. The Australian Guidelines are government health guidelines put together by a panel of experts. Who use research papers to draw to the conclusions you see today. If you cared so much about the eating guidelines I suggest you make a submission when they are reviewed again. In fact dietitians made submissions earlier this year when it was reviewed..... where was Pete Evans review? We learn from science journals that are released all the time from a range of researchers around the world, not text books. Our learning never stops as we have to complete and attend training courses on various topics every year for a minimum of 30hrs. I exceed that by more than double because I love learning. At my work we are tested on our knowledge and competency to work with sick people every month! - YES we are quizzed monthly and our job is on the line unless we know how to deal with ill people! In fact to be a dietitian it is one of the most competitive uni courses to get into and you have to maintain a credit average or else you get asked to leave. So that would lead me to think dietitians are pretty smart. So those that think dietitians are ill informed you are very misinformed. We are not the same as nutritionists. I spent 7 years at uni doing my double degree, and learnt from over 100+ different teachers, not one single outdated text book sponsored by big pharma OR big food. I am yet to get any money from either, nor will i ever see any. If you dont know what a dietitian does, we work in communities with the elderly, hospitals, medical centres, in food industry, gyms, unis and the list goes on. If you cared to learn more about a sustainable healthier life style I suggest you visit one for individual tailored advice, not another fad diet you will fail on 1-2years time. Please dont comment and dont assume you know about my profession... because clearly you dont. We know about Paleo, LCHF, sugar free blah blah insert fad diet name here. We have read the research, and it tells us moderation is the key to a healthy mind and body when it comes to food. NOT restrictive, elitist diets.
