*Geek out moment! - In case you missed it NASA is still working on a functional warp drive :)* I know the report is several months old but Ive been following the Alcubierre drive concept for many years. It literally works by warping space into a warp bubble around the craft by contracting the space in front of the craft which creates expanded space behind it. At one point they gave up by determining they couldnt viably generate enough negative energy to propel the craft until another scientist realized that changing the design from a warp bubble to warp rings would significantly reduce the needed negative energy, while the theory hasnt been proven yet, it does work well with general relativity. This would make a craft that could travel at faster than 2 light years per week, not too shabby given there are plenty of stars to explore within range.
