Generation Opportunity Celebrates Independence Day The 4th of July is our Independence Day: a time to celebrate our nation’s liberty, and to honor the struggle and achievements of those heroes who fought for that liberty over two-hundred years ago. Standing tall (though far from alone!) in the history of the American Revolution are the Founding Fathers. Their words and deeds inspired and continue to inspire everyone who holds dear the values of individual liberty and personal responsibility. Most Americans imagine our nation’s Founding Fathers in 1776 looking middle-aged or elderly, the way artists portrayed those great men in portraits, years later. But the truth is that many of the heroes of the Revolution, including some of the Founders, were in their twenties and thirties when the Declaration of Independence was ratified! If those young Americans had just sat back and let older generations make decisions for them, the United States wouldn’t be the independent nation it is today. Read on to learn what Americans the same age as today’s Millennials were doing to take a stand for liberty back in ’76! generationopportunity.org/happy-4th-july/?utm_source=twitter_re&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=july4foundingfathers
