(Genesis 38:9) - And Onan knew that the offspring would not be - TopicsExpress

(Genesis 38:9) - And Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so it came about that when he went in to his brother’s wife, he wasted his seed on the ground, in order not to give offspring to his brother. Why did God kill Onan for spilling his seed on the ground? Ok lets try to make sense out of this: The reason God did this is not because Onan wasted his seed on the ground, but because Onan refused to perform his familial duties of producing offspring for his brothers. This was a great offense at the time. Now, we must realize that the culture was very different than ours is today. In that culture, when a man died and left no children, the next of kin was sometimes obligated to go in to the wife and produce children. These children were then considered to be the descendents of the original late husband and would be raised as such. This way, the offspring would be able to take care of the mother, provide more people for the community, and thereby raise their own children, continuing the name of that family. Onan knew this and refused to take part in furthering the honor and name of the brothers wife and thereby also risking provision for her in the future. To this, God was very displeased and took Onans life. Now you probably asking where do we feature in the picture. Ok let me reveal this: Onan enjoyed the whole “process” with his brother’s wife but his seed (the thing that will make him to reproduce) he wasted it and God was displeased, if our spiritual eyes are opened you will see that the same spirit of Onan is in operation in our churches, we are having a nice time “process” (I hope that you hear me) with our worship “we feel nice” like how Onan felt but when it was time to reproduce “he wasted the seed” the same way that we “feel” good during our worship but if you look by your spiritual eyes we keep on wasting the seed hence we find in the body of Christ that people today they feel good they enjoy the intimacy with Him but when a challenge come they die it’s because “the seed is wasted” do you get my point? The enemy doesn’t mind allowing you to have the intimacy but he’ll make sure that you waist “the seed” I won’t even go deeper to talk about “the seed”
