#GhanaSpeaks: Open Letter to the Black Stars Dear Stars, Ordinarily we would have inquired how youre doing ahead of tomorrows game against Uganda; those were the days when we really cared. Not anymore. We hear you are in town to start your Afcon 2015 qualifying campaign and are desperate to have us turn up at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to watch you play. Even watch you train, perhaps. Well, heres the hard part: were not coming, even if the ticket prices were slashed to one- millionth of the usual. ...oh, a little bird just whispered in my ear that your bosses are actually willing to let us attend for nothing. Smart move, granted, but were still not coming. Even if we do, it would be for the worse. The abuse would flow in volumes and, while not exaggerating, we can assure you things would be as bad as it gets. The sane among us might just jeer every pass or move of yours while probably applauding the oppositions movements. It is, however, the slightly gaga fans you should be more afraid of; those ones who would spew proper vitriol and utter all sorts of uncouth words. While we do not endorse such, you could not justifiably claim it would be entirely undeserved, could you? The vast majority - yours truly included - would rather stay at home and attend to more pressing matters come Saturday afternoon/ evening (youd be fortunate to even have us watch you on TV!). The message is simple, really: if youd rather shamelessly kiss absurd sums of cash and hold the nation to ransom instead of playing wholeheartedly, then Ghanaians surely wouldnt be bothered to turn up and see you play while our weekend dose of fufu and nkrakra waits to be consumed! You could do a whole lot to make yourselves feel/look good against the Cranes, you know... Forfeit your bonuses (fully or partially), donate it all to an orphanage in Kumasi, hire a favourable support to back you during the match, etc. Still, you couldnt do much worse than line up on national television to render to your countrymen an unqualified apology. We would always give you the platform to do so whenever youre ready. Until then, the public consensus remains: WE JUST DONT CARE!
