#GoTeamTeddy Update: September 2nd, Valentines Day. Our adorable nursing staff created a pile of holiday-themed cards from Teddy to us, his parents, and we nominated today Valentines Day. By gum, if were stuck in a hospital, were gonna make it a celebration. Kirsten, our nurse on duty today, scrounged up a pile of colorful construction paper, stickers and craft supplies. My family is hunting down themed decorations and gifts. In a matter of hours our new luxury suite in the ICU, easily twice the size of our week-long residence and with a lovely view of trees over Lake Washington, will transform into a pink holiday bungalow. Teddys condition, though described as stable by the medical professionals, is gradually worsening. Weve slept here in his room four nights straight despite the hospitals accommodations upstairs; we simply dont want to lose any moments with him. The smallest gesture elicits our boundless glee or concern, depending on his pleasure or pain. Despite the damage to his senses, to whatever extent his little body can perceive touch, sound, smell, were filling with love. But as his discomfort increases, we grow more aware of his suffering. We weigh our selfishness at wanting to build memories against our waning ability to provide him comfort. Gods sweet, daily miracles continue to surprise us; apart from divine medical intervention, however, our Teddy wont be joining us in the rest of our familys God-appointed adventures. Pray for Teddys comfort and ours as we seek Gods guidance for our dear child.
