“God Hath Set Thee” Gen 41:33 Now therefore let Pharaoh look out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt. 34 Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years. 35 And let them gather all the food of those good years that come, and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities. 36 And that food shall be for store to the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perish not through the famine. 37 And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants. 38 And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is? 39 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art: 40 Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou. 41 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt. The making of Joseph throughout the years of hard times and places of discouragement and at times despair were teaching tools for such a promotion. Pharaoh said in verse 41, “See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.” But who was it that set Joseph over the land of Egypt? Was it Pharaoh or God? Joseph could have claimed that it was his due to all that he had been through and all the public frustration of being in prison and wrongly accused. His pride could have gotten in the way of the promotion but that is not what Joseph did. He allowed God to promote him at the perfect time, place and with the plan that God was giving him to carry out what was to be done. When it is time for God to give us our promotions in life just know that He has brought us to the place where He will bring glory to His name, not ours. He sets up kingdoms and takes them down. He allows men to be used in His service in whatever area the Lord would bring us to whether in ministry or in public service or on our job. However, with the promotion is the greater responsibility. God gave Joseph the dreams because he gave the glory to His Lord and Master. It was God who gave the dreams and then put the man in place to carry out what was to happen in the kingdom of Egypt to save the people of God. As the life of Joseph unfolds, we will know that there is a great God of heaven that is a revealer of dreams which He sends to kings and then allows a man to interpret those dreams. When Joseph was set in his place after a life of obedience to God, God then blessed him with a wife, children and a job to do that would help people down through the ages as a plan to be frugal and plan for the hard days that would come into our lives. A principle we could receive from this would be to memorize or hide God’s word in our hearts so that when the times of temptation would come, we could be overcomers. II Timothy 4:1-4 gives an understanding about our day in which some Christians will not endure sound doctrine and will turn their ears from the truth and seek to hear fables that would declare smooth things that tickle the ear. We are in that day of famine of hearing the word of God as Amos said. May we understand what God is doing in our day with laying up the precious word of God daily in our lives and then carrying out the great commission of helping others know of the famine that is to come. Joseph did carry out the plan of gathering for seven years to prepare for the famine. How did he handle the people that would come to him that had no food? What kind of character came out in Joseph? Lots to learn for our own lives in this man’s life for us.
