‘Gone Girl’…based on the novel by Gillian Flynn…a film by David Fincher. I will NEVER miss a chance to see a Fincher film in the theater….I have been doing so since I saw Alien 3 in the theater and this time was no exception! Gone Girl is the story of the seemingly perfect suburban couple Amy and Nick Dunne, about to embark on the celebration of their 5th wedding anniversary, when our handsome husband comes home to discover his beautiful wife is missing. Police are called, family is notified, townspeople are antsy and suspicious and as tensions mount on our poor husband-of-the year, Nick…he fumbles, lies, is bitter, acts inappropriately and is evasive…but is HE responsible for her abduction and murder? Fincher and Flynn will lay the groundwork for this suspense film that keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering and waiting….cagey with anticipation….and loving to hate many aspects of all the characters. The pathology of Affleck’s ‘Nick’ is reminiscent of Scott Peterson who acted similarly after reporting his wife missing in 2002 and was subsequently charged with her murder. But don’t let that fool you...Nick was no Scott…and ‘Amazing Amy’ is as sweet as powdered sugar dancing across your lips. People love to hate a wonderful villain…and you are about to meet one, dare I say, fall in love with one you didn’t see coming. I was personally a little deflated by the ending, but I loved the road that lead up to it. David Fincher paints the picture while Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross allow the sonic landscape to wash over you. Definitely worth seeing, however I give this 2-1/2 fingers out of a hopeful 5 on the Glove-meter.
