Good afternoon, While weve all enjoyed the balmy weather - TopicsExpress

Good afternoon, While weve all enjoyed the balmy weather over north and central Texas over the past several days, changes are coming. An arctic cold front will sweep through most of Texas on Thursday, ushering in much colder air across the state. In conjunction with this frontal passage, a fast moving upper level storm system will move east across the state late Thursday into Friday morning, triggering a chance of winter precipitation across the central and southeast counties. While impacts - at this time - are not expected to be significant in the WFO Fort Worth County Warning Area, we wanted to give you a heads up on this change in the weather pattern. Please see the attached slides for a graphical representation of the impacts. BOTTOM LINE: There will be a chance of light snow or sleet Thursday evening through Friday morning, south of an Eastland to Waco to Centerville line. This storm system will be fast moving, so the duration of any winter precipitation will be just a few hours. Accumulations, if any, should be very light. However, with surface temperatures falling into the 20s by Friday morning, any brief bursts of snow or sleet that do occur might have the potential to cause some isolated slick spots, mainly on elevated surfaces. AMOUNTS AND AREAS OF GREATEST CONCERN: Light snow or sleet is possible generally south of an Eastland to Centerville line. In much of this area, accumulations, if any, would be extremely light - just a dusting. South and west of an Eastland to Temple line, there is a slightly higher potential for accumulation, perhaps approaching 1/4 in spots. TIMING: From 4 pm Thursday afternoon, to 9 am Friday morning. IMPACTS: Isolated slick spots, mainly on bridges and overpasses. FORECAST CONFIDENCE: Low to moderate on occurrence of snow/sleet; If it does occur, moderate to high confidence on amounts ALTERNATE SCENARIOS: While very unlikely, there is a small chance that accumulations could exceed our current expectations where brief bursts of snow or sleet occur. If this were to occur (again, very unlikely), then conditions would become more slick and hazardous in a few locations.
