#Grenade blast in #Guwahati, six injured #AssamTribuneOnline #GUWAHATI, July 28 – Making a mockery of the beefed up security in the capital city following a Statewide alert, miscreants lobbed a grenade in Paltan Bazar area around 8 pm near Paltan Bazar police station injuring at least six persons. The injured, of which a few of them are stated to be critical, have been rushed to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. The injured also include two on-duty home guard personnel. Following the blast, the area has been cordoned off and forensic experts too have collected samples from the place of occurrence. Senior police officials including the Additional Director General of Assam Police (Law and Order) AP Raut, IGP (law and order) SN Singh and City SSP AP Tiwari have rushed to the spot. ADGP (Law and Order) AP Raut said that prima facie evidence indicates it to be a handiwork of ULFA although the matter is still under investigation. It needs mention that the grenade was lobbed at the checking party stationed near the police station which is adjacent to the Guwahati Railway Station. Today being Sunday, there was lesser movement of public and vehicular traffic in the market area. The blast has once again exposed the intelligence set up and security preparedness of the Assam Police with the blast taking place in spite of an alert sounded by the Home Department a few days back in the aftermath of the explosions in Lakhimpur area recently.
