#HBC HOMA BAY HOSTS EAST AFRICAS BIGGEST LOCAL AUTHORITIES CONFERENCE The County Government of Homa Bay, is set to host the 13th Annual General Assembly of the Lake Victoria Regional Local Authorities Cooperation (LVRLAC). The meeting scheduled to take place between 8th to 10th October 2014 at the Homa Bay Tourist Hotel will bring together more than 100 officials from local authorities and County Governments located in the Lake Victoria catchment in Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya. Among those expected at the conference include governors led by their Council Chairman Isaac Oruto , Mayors from Kampala, Entebe, Jinja, Mwanza and Bukoba, among many other officers. The leaders will be discussing the sustainable use of Lake Victoria as a source of Livelihood to more than 34m people living across East Africa and parts of Rwanda and Burundi. The theme for this year’s AGA is Promoting Community Participation in Sustainable Utilization of Lake Victoria Resources, and the Slogan is: Our Lake, Our Responsibility. This year’s theme reflects the contribution and the role that LVRLAC plays in sustainable utilization of the Lake Victoria Resources while taking into consideration the key role that our communities in the region play towards attainment of sustainable development in the Lake Region. On the sidelines, the delegates will engage in sports activities, tree planting and charitable activities. Although they have not officially joined the organization, Burundi and Rwanda will also send delegates to the meeting. In Total, Homa bay expects to host up to 400 delegates. In his message, Homa Bay Governor Cyprian Awiti welcomed the delegates to the lakeside town, saying tight security will be maintained around the town to ensure safety of the delegates. Awiti said the County will use the opportunity to show-case its investment opportunities. Organizing Committees both at the Lvrlac headquarters at Entebe, Uganda, the Kenya Chapter office and at the County Government of Homa Bay have finalized arrangements for the big event.
