“HOSANNA IN THE HIGHEST - CRUCIFY HIM!” Jesus rode into - TopicsExpress

“HOSANNA IN THE HIGHEST - CRUCIFY HIM!” Jesus rode into Jerusalem and the people laid down palm branches and shouted “HOSANNA!” In the matter of a few days, the cry changed from “HOSANNA” to “CRUCIFY HIM!”. Our pulpits use to lay down an un-compromised Gospel, the only Gospel that can truly save a man. But in that matter of a short time that has changed. Now such a Gospel is “out of date.” We find it a much more comfortable fit for our egos to hear that we are basically “good people” who make “mistakes” now and then, and that Christ expects nothing more than that we simply do the best that we can. But you see the Bible doesn’t teach that we have made some mistakes or done some sinful things, rather, it teaches that we have a sinful nature. An apple tree is not an apple tree because it bears apples. It bears apples because it is an apple tree. Likewise, you and I are not sinners because we sin, we sin because we are sinners. Yet even while in our wretched state of sinfulness the Bible declares “God commanded His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” That’s right. God sent His Son to die for you and to tell you that repentance is the only way to find salvation There is no other way to God, Heaven, and eternal life except through repentance by way of the Cross. But you must realize this: that great act of love on God’s part requires a response on your part. What is your response? Are you willing to make that commitment to Christ tonight? Are you willing to bring all of your sins to bear at the Cross? Are you willing to take them there with a broken and contrite heart? Sadly, many are being bottle fed by the pulpit today and they don’t even know what true commitment to Christ is. We no longer challenge people with the Gospel. Think about it: The biggest challenge in many churches today is the great challenge to attend meetings: The Deacons meeting - the Trustees meeting - the Guild meeting - the Christian Education meeting - the Church council meetings - we have LOTS of meetings, and we make LOTS of plans - But - how many disciples have we made? 2 Timothy 4: 2&5 has become a cumbersome thing for many preachers. It’s much easier for them to compromise instead of evangelize. It is a carefully crafted, re-written, re-defined, non-offensive message that we hear today. The Apostle Paul said to the Christians at Galatia, “Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?” (Galatians 4:16). The truth offends most people, but the Word of God teaches that we should LOVE THE TRUTH. It warns that those who perish do so because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.” (2nd Thessalonians 2:10). Do you love the truth? Most people dont even care to know the truth. I encourage you tonight to embrace that truth. I encourage you to take that step and make that commitment to Christ. Give him your heart, your mind, give Him total control over all areas of your life. The Bible tells us plainly that there is no other way than this to find peace and salvation. God bless you, and help you, in making that all-important decision. Yours in Christ Jesus, Mark Shutts
