*** HOW TO PREVENT WORDPRESS HACKAGE *** A friend got her site hacked today and lost a lot. I dont know but I think she was probably on WordPress as most of us are. I want to tell everyone HOW TO PREVENT HACKAGE if you are on Wordpress . There is a GREAT anti-hacking preventative plugin called WordFence. Everyone should install this immediately if you dont already have it. I used the free version, saw how MANY hacking attempts it prevented and promptly bought the paid version. I saw over 200 in just one hour while I was watching...and my tech tells me thats just a representative sample they cant even show most of the attempts because there are so many. Its prevented hundreds of thousands of attacks in the last year alone. ALSO - DO NOT NAME YOUR Admin profile the default Admin - think up a crazy name no one would ever think of and use that as your Admin User Name. Your Admin user name should include: Capital and lower case letters, at least 2 numbers and at least 2 miscellaneous characters. Example: 2L1k#5rS3*^a - and no, it doesnt make any sense...but thats the point! You can define this name when you set up your Wordpress at the initial install. If you have the default name Admin set up, hackers can just throw a code generator at that name and keep trying passwords until they hit on the right combo. Once theyre in, its too late. If you have your default Administrator set up as Admin, pack up your site - you can use the Export function in Wordpress to do this, it packs up all your pages and posts and most of the pictures - you may have to relink some pictures when you set it up again, but Export usually gets most of them, and the setup is worth it. Set up a new installation of Wordpress on a test server with the crazy unguessable Admin name and the WordFence plugin, use the Import command to import your sites files and take a look. Re-link all the pictures that may have dropped out. Dont forget to upload your template. Once...
