: Hand in Hand with Jesus Jesus Led of the Spirit to Be Tempted? Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He was afterward a hungered. And the tempter requested that Jesus prove He was the “Son of God” by commanding stones be made bread” (Read Matt. 4:1-3); I am sure Jesus could, but He replied, it is written, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeded out of the mouth of God” (v. 4) . The Word of God was His guide! The devil proceeded with step two and three: He wanted Jesus to cast Himself from a pinnacle’ to prove He was the Son of God: Jesus reply was, “it is written, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord thy God”’ (Vv. 5-7). Then he took and showed Him “all the kingdoms of the world and its glory” and promise “All these I will give You’ if You will fall down and worship me.” Jesus answered: “Get thee hence Satan; for it is written, ‘Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shall thou serve”’ (Vv. 8-10).
