THE DANCE: Kizomba Dance represents the evolution of a dance style that originated in Angola, West Africa, first documented by the Western in the later 1800s. (Similarly, the Tango, Salsa, Bachata, Merengue other Latin dances have their foundations in Angola and other parts of Africa.) The word Kizomba means party in the Kimbundu language of Angola. Angola is also the place where millions of slaves were taken from and brought to Brazil, Argentina, Latin America, the Caribbean and North America, especially Charleston South Carolina and New York. KIZOMBA HARTFORD DEVELOPMENT GROUP; and, Kizomba Hartford Development Group One Year Anniversary: Kizomba Hartford Development Group (KHDG) was founded one year ago by Tricia Jessica Johnson. KHGD is the organizer for the performance group Kizomba Hartford, the studio and events club Studio Con Etiquette Kizomba Connecticut and the education unit: Kizomba North America. Our Collective Mission: Dance About Something!; and, to popularize Kizomba Dance in our region while providing the public opportunities to learn and enjoy the dance. We see Kizomba as a centerpiece for learning about the world we dance in. December 21 is a day of celebration!
