"Hearts and Diamonds...and Cara Mia", Pastel, 18 x 24 I had a vision for this exact scene almost two years ago. How to convey how absolutely gratifying it was to pose my models and see it come to life in the beautiful, warm dramatic sunlight I had hoped for? Also shown is the completed quick study from life (about 1 1/2 hours...). For some reason, I was determined to do a larger plein air study than I would normally do, probably because I had intended the final studio piece to be much larger. The color notes of the study were so instrumental in crafting the finished piece in my studio, which ended up about the same size as the study. This was the first time this sweet married couple had ever played cards....wonderful time.
