The Kemele Hela Wigmen are the premiers of the 2014 Digicel Cup competition beating the Agmark Rabaul Gurias in an excruciating encounter by 34 points to 8. Out of all odds, entering the semi professional competition as underdogs the Hela franchise have shocked and left the nation of PNG in awe. The Gurias were obviously the favorites coming into the match but they couldnt outclass the gritty Wigmens versatile outfit led by skipper Oliver Keri the magician. The Hela boys proved too strong in the first stanza leading with a classy margin. PNG was on its toes when people heard over the radio that the Wigmen have led the first half of the match. In the second stanza the Tindi Apas proved all critics wrong by bullying the defensive line of Gurias with King Omai and Wabo Knights barging through the line with inside outside passes to the backs to increase the lead and secure the win. The people of Hela and Southern Highlands have returned home with pride and satisfaction knowing that theyre the champions of 2014. Its indeed a great pleasure to have the services of Omai and Wabo as they consider retirement. Theyve achieved a lot and to end their careers with a grand final win is a bonus.
