**Hospice foster needed ASAP ** This is Zena she is a 1year old GS she was dumped at the Antioch shelter by a GS rescue group ( dont ask we dont know what one and we are just as pissed as you are about that) . Zena was sent to UC Davis to be spayed and the vet came across a big problem. You see Zena has Severe Subaortic Stenosis . What is that you ask? Subaortic stenosis is a narrowing (stenosis) of the area underneath, the aortic valve, that causes some degree of obstruction or blockage of the blood flow through the heart. The narrowing can be mild, moderate, or severe; if moderate or severe, it can force the heart to work harder and potentially be harmful to the hearts health. Subaortic stenosis is a problem that affects dogs and is rare in cats. It most commonly occurs in large-breed dogs. Subaortic stenosis appears to be genetic in origin; the first signs of it may be present at birth (moderate or severe cases) or may appear in the first year of life (usually milder cases). Zena has a SEVERE case. The vets at Davis are giving her a 6m to 1y life term, she will be on heart medication everyday, this medication is not expensive at all and Kim at BDR will supply the 1st few months for her. We are having her tested with other dogs and cats not sure about kids. If anyone can open there home up please let us know and further reports and what can be expected will be discussed. Please contact Kim at (925) 584-4529.
