#HowILearnedToSing Folks on social media ask me all the time about my own personal vocal influences. I do believe that mimicking other voices which we find appealing can have some value in our artistic development, as long as we eventually reconnect those aesthetic values to our own unique individual instrument. I have MANY vocal inspirations, but one vocalist in particular played an integral role in inspiring me to explore the upper register of my voice. When I was growing up, Brian McKnight was such an inspiration. He wasnt afraid to use ALL of his voice; his dynamic use of head voice was particularly influential to me. He floated through his registers with an ease that seemed impossible to me as a kid. I was amazed... and motivated.
