#HowToTuesdays. Recognising Scam Emails - Keep an eye for any red flags. With the idea of Viruses put aside, we want to shed a bit of light on email scams which we all receive, since they are becoming more common. We may have noticed that Nigeria’s Princes have stopped reaching out to us, as nice as that feels, it doesn’t mean that scams have stopped. Sooner or later you will receive an email telling you you have spent money with a reputable company (eg: iTunes, Skype, ATO etc), and there will always be a button to ‘report’ the payment as a mistake to claim the money back. This email is a scam and hopes that you will click the link and then try to log-in into your account to claim back your money, therefore taking your details. This scam is based on making you panic and rush your decisions in an attempt to get your details. We would love to share some #tips to ensure your safety: 1. When you receive these emails and are worried they may be true; you must first slow down and look closer. If it is not a purchase you remember making, it’s time to investigate. The email may say its from ‘#iTunes’ or ‘#Apple’. But you should check the actual email address it comes from. (eg: apple emails end in itunes, apple and icloud). 2. Check where the ‘button to claim the money takes you (the picture shown shows an example of a scam email sending you to a non-apple website, this is a big giveaway). 3. Finally, you could always check your online banking to see if its true that the money has been spent. Do not let an email panic you into clicking links and giving away personal information.
