... ★ I Shall Resist ★ .. Maybe Ill lose salary, as you wish. Ill be forced to sell clothes and mattress; I will, perhaps, the bearer of stones; the Porter, the street zappino or the factory worker; Maybe Ill also be forced to seek farm yard manure to find a grain to eat; or maybe I will die naked and hungry. However I do not ever resign yourself, or enemy of the Sun! But I shall resist until the last drop blood in my veins. You I could steal the last inch of soil; would you be able to give the prisons my young age; to deprive me of my grandfathers legacy: furniture, household tools and containers. Well youd be able to give the fire my poems and my books and dogs my flesh. Youd be – as is true – a nightmare the heart of our village, or enemy of the Sun! However, I do not ever resign to you and, until the last drop blood in my veins I shall resist!... You may spegnermi the light that lights up the night and deprive me of my mothers Kiss; your kids would be able to insult my people and my father; some coward than you would be able to fake as well my story; You yourself could deprive my children a festive dress; would you be able to deceive, with false face, my friends, who crucified me everyday on a humiliating, vision or enemy of the Sun! However, I do not ever resign to you and, until the last drop of blood in my veins I shall resist!... Or enemy of the Sun! In the port I see ornaments, signs of joy; I hear cheerful voices and the enthusiastic cheers infuocano of happiness that the throat; and I see a horizon sailing that defies the wind and waves overcoming the dangers confidently! This is the return of Ulysses from the sea of loss. This is the return of the Sun And the expatriate man!... To the eyes of him and beloved land I swear not to resign myself to you and until the last drop of blood in the veins, I shall resist, I shall resist, I shall resist!... Samih al Qasim
