“I can have faith to make mountains fall, but if I lack love then I have nothing at all.” This quote by Lauryn Hill summarizes my viewpoint on life perfectly. I could have all the money and all the fame in the world, but if I lack love, then it is hollow and evanescent success. To have the opportunity to help others… This is the kind of success that echoes through the generations and truly fulfills my soul. I used to think to myself, “Well this is really hard, but at least by the end of it I will be able to impress people and make a lot of money.” That helped me get through some things. Today I tell myself, “Well this is really hard, but at least by the end of it fewer of my people will be living in plywood shacks on the reservation without any semblance of hope, health or safety.” This gives me fifty times more motivation to get through tough times than fame or money ever has.
