: I defy anyone to watch "The Impossible" and not shed a tear at some point. A true-life disaster movie that opens with a spectacularly harrowing recreation of the mass destruction and death wreaked by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, it plunges the audience into the catastrophe and then immerses us in the panic, grief and disorientation of the aftermath. Some scenes are devastating and heart-breaking in their intensity and although it does stretch credibility somewhat, it still manages to steer clear of over sentimentality. Naomi Watts, Ewan McGregor and newcomer Tom Holland turn in brilliant performances with scenes that stay with you long after the credits have rolled. 10/10
