“I don’t know if you can go to the bathroom, but you certainly may go.” Growing up, the vast majority of Global Brigades’ student volunteers heard this refrain numerous times from primary school teachers when their squirming classmates asked to go to the bathroom for the fifth time. Many found this irritating, but at least they could use clean and functioning toilets. Primary school students in many rural Honduran communities, on the other hand, do not have the luxury of safely going to the bathroom while in school as the only facilities are unhygienic or broken pit latrines. Thus, the Public Health team recently joined a handful of community volunteers to construct new washable latrines at the school in Fray Lazaro. With the addition of these projects and the washable latrines in the majority of homes in the community, the children should be healthier and continue to thrive. #GB365 #GBHonduras
