*I have a story--just watched gridiron gang starring Dwayne Johnson. the story is true-its about a bunch of gang bangers who are incarcerated and how they are changed by their coach/teacher/mentor/friend/hero. so as I am watching Dwayne comes to mind-he was at freedom when I taught there. my buddy, jody cwik, who taught alternative ed. found him in the bathroom smoking. jody took him under his wing and mentored/coached him while at freedom. a challenging road as Dwaynes journey had ups and downs. then he goes to florida jodys favorite school and they continue their friendship. fast forward-I coteach with jody-east hills-seventh grade geography jody dies unexpectedly of esophageal cancer--its fast. I am allowed to go to the memorial service with other teachers during the school day in reading. Dwayne does not attend but calls jodys wife and daughter. when I arrive in the church--there are skads of boys/men in suits--boys jody had coached--the are quietly sobbing with tear soaked faces. I was angry that Dwayne wasnt there. it was so painful to be part of this. but today when I am watching this movie--what a testimony to jody cwik. here is Dwayne Johnson, a movie star-from the boys bathroom to the big screen. yes, Dwayne was there in the arms of jody and has proved himself. we are gamechangers if we accept the responsibility of making ourselves models and/ mentors--game changers in the lives of those we know and dont know--I believe in the greater good-the goodness in people and being the best person I can be--thanks jody...
