“I have much more to tell you but you cannot bear it now. But - TopicsExpress

“I have much more to tell you but you cannot bear it now. But when He comes, the Spirit of truth, He will lead you to all truth” John 16:12 This promise of Jesus challenged His disciples and it also challenges all of us. As we pray today it may help us to examine our attitude to be in anticipation of this promise, today and every day, bringing us a deeper awareness of our faith, of truth as we face the demands of living. It is so easy to give a certain lip service to the Holy Spirit who continues to reveal to each one of us as much insight into truth as we can bear. In so many ways I ignore this promise of Jesus and I am spiritually poorer for that. What about you? Could you be more open to the joy of the Spirit as each day unfolds in your life? I envy good people who are more conscious of this great promise of Jesus and who are ready to be open to the consequences of truth in their daily living. Can you imagine for a moment what this might do for you in your family, with your friends, or at work? Do you ever find yourself biting your tongue when you know that truth and real charity demand that you speak? This “tongue biting” practice may well be a denial of the Holy Spirit fulfilling the promise of Jesus. Any thoughts? -- Msgr. John Barry
