I have read mention of appeals being made to the State - TopicsExpress

I have read mention of appeals being made to the State Legislature to consider an override of the Governors veto of the approved budget funding for the Missouri Rehab. Center. Maybe, if we all contact our elected officials and encourage them to consider the many services this facility provides to this part of the State. Even when there is a low census, the hospital is utilized by many on an out-patient basis for the excellant therapies as Speech, Physical, Respiratory and others. Or who see the doctors on an out-patient basis. They have respiratory specialists on staff. Statistics are that the Veterans Clinic that is housed in one wing of the facility, sees an average of 17,000 patients annually. The closest Veterans facility within the four-state area for some distance. Which is a great advantage to the brand new 200 bed Veterans Home there in Mt. Vernon. Seems there is a history of a tug-of-war between our democrat Governor and our legislative body. He consistently vetoes what they send to his desk. Has the Governor made this another of those contests of wills? CONTACT YOUR ELECTED STATE OFFICIAL AN ENCOURAGE THEM TO CONSIDER THIS FURTHER? This facility contributes too much to this whole area to lose it! EXCERPT: •the uncertainty of state funding that makes it difficult to successfully manage and staff a hospital and strategically plan for the future in a rapidly changing health care environment. This year, Wasden said, the General Assembly appropriated $10.4 million for MRC, the governor vetoed $5.2 million of the appropriation, and it is possible there could be a veto override and/or subsequent withholding of the MRC funds this fall. During the past five years, MRC has received state appropriations of approximately $10 million annually.
