I know many people have some push back to benevolence ministry - TopicsExpress

I know many people have some push back to benevolence ministry to the poor. Some of the concerns are legitimate. Some are just our sinful nature. So in an effort to help you “be as gentle as doves and as wise as serpents” here are some additional thoughts to help you work through the issue: BE RESPONSIVE In challenging everyone to think through their responses to under-resourced people they encounter. I am thinking more about your attitude towards the person not an amount that you would give them. Our response should be love and respect. We have to trust the Holy Spirit to guide our actions. BE INTENTIONAL We need to know how we will respond to the needs of the poor we encounter. For example, some like to carry a Wal-mart or Kroger gift card of $10, they can give the card to the person (not wanting to give cash). I know some who carry a backpack in their trunk full of water bottles, snack bars, and other health items (hand sanitizer or tissues). These items can be easily accessed and given to meet immediate needs. BE GENEROUS Yes with your money, but more so with your words and your time. Listening. Learning. Caring. And Praying. Be naturally supernatural with them. When you have given to their need (relationally, physically, or financially), ask them how you can pray for them and then do it right there with them! If you have the opportunity follow up! Jesus said. “Be as gentle as doves and as wise as serpents…” Hopefully, this blog post will help you go the 2nd mile with the divine appointments you are given with the under-resourced people you encounter.
