“I know that this could honestly help somebody,” said 10th-grader Gaeia Bartles, 16, during a one-day blood drive Jan. 23 at Falcon High School in District 49. “I think that it’s important that if you can save a life, you should.” “It’s really important to our community, because right now we’re experiencing a lot of shortages,” said Solitaire Merrill of Bonfils Blood Center, a nonprofit organization that strives to accommodate blood needs in the Rocky Mountain region. More than 100 donor candidates were identified. The students were reminded to get a good night’s rest, eat a full breakfast and drink lots of fluids. At the end of the day, 83 units were collected, according to Connie Micheals-Lipp, Academy of Health Sciences program coordinator. “This drive has been immensely helpful for our supply,” said Merrill.
