“I see the chaos that rules almost everywhere, but I see also a hope there,” Mexican artist Sergio Bautistas paintings are one of the first works seen upon entering the new exhibit One Language is Never Enough, Un Idioma Nunca Es Suficiente. Bautistas use of intense and illuminating colors is spectacular. Through the hundreds of brush strokes crossed together, a path sometimes can be discovered by the viewer. Bautista sees this as the chaos that is ruling everywhere and the underlying hope. What better way to begin viewing a beautiful and culturally stimulating exhibit if not through a bit of hopeful chaos displayed through vibrant colors. Bautista on his use of color, The colors of my homeland Mexico radiate manifold and strong, especially through the light. Even as a child they made a strong impression on me and come now directly out of my heart,”. After moving to North America, Bautista has found a way to keep the connection he had as a child of the strong, vibrant colors of his homeland with him in the United States. Come experience his works in One Language is Never Enough: Latino Artists in Southern New England, on view through January 4th, 2015 at the Fitchburg Art Museum.
