* IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR THE SANGAT * SIKH MANIFESTO The initiative for a Sikh Manifesto was launched on Sunday 21 September. Many have commented positively about this development and made useful suggestions, based on these an outline Manifesto is being drafted. The Sikh Manifesto will be officially launched in January 2015 in the UK Parliament and we are keen to hold several consultation meetings in the South, Midlands and North in the next 3-4 weeks to further develop and finalise the Sikh Manifesto content and related material. The consultation meetings will be as follows: SOUTH – SATURDAY 25 OCTOBER at Seven Kings Singh Sabha, East London from 11am-1pm then at Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Havelock Road, Southall from 3pm-5pm. MIDLANDS – SATURDAY 1 NOVEMBER at Guru Nanak Gurdwara, Smethwick from 12pm-2pm (before the Candlelit Vigil) and SATURDAY 8 NOVEMBER at Guru Tegh Bahadur Gurdwara from 12pm-2pm NORTH – SUNDAY 9 NOVEMBER at Singh Sabha Gurdwara Bradford from 12-2pm then at Chapel Town Gurdwara Leeds from 3pm-5pm Please confirm which consultation meeting you will be attending via email. If you prefer you can also provide written suggestions regarding the Sikh Manifesto and the associated Sikh Network. The consultation meetings will also allow for and share information about: · suggested amendments in the Sikh Manifesto to date · plans for the launch in Parliament in January · initial strategy to make the most of the Sikh vote THE SIKH NETWORK The Sikh Network comprises Sikh activists from existing Sikh organisations, human rights and political activists, lawyers, academics, researchers, journalists, public sector professionals, management consultants, marketing and PR professionals, charity workers, students. The Networks key aim is to develop and launch the Sikh Manifesto. The Network intends to share thoughts and actions on key issues and campaigns to all. To participate please provide your name, email, full postal address, including postcode so we can map participants in the Network to MPs. Based on your capacity and availability you may wish to indicate which of the three categories you wish to be included in as this will determine the level of formal communication via email. TARGETED POLITICAL SEATS 50 target seats will also be formally released with the Sikh Manifesto in January and details of the Sikh Network that we wish you will join and be a leading participant. These have been statistically analysed and complied where the Sikh vote can have a significant impact. Depending on the timing of the consultation meeting that you attend we will also share details of awareness raising events taking place in relation to the 30th anniversary of November 1984, including events in the UK and European Parliament.
