~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~IN MEMORIUM - GLEN MOORE~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Glen Moore was a hard working, passionate man who had a fierce love for children and animals. He passed away this past November of kidney cancer after a three year battle. His passion and energy throughout his illness were focused on his family and his animals. Aside from four grown children and seven grandchildren, Glen shared a family of 16 “fur babies” with his wife Wendy (6 dogs and 10 cats). Initially, when the fur family was starting to increase in numbers, Glen would say “Another one?!” each time Wendy brought home/found a new rescue. It was all pomp and circumstance though. When no-one was watching, he would play and coo with each and every one. Things took a dramatic turn one day when Glen found four little kittens, approximately a week old, at the dump. They had been abandoned by their mother in an old garbage trailer. He called home and asked what he should do. Wendy chuckled, as the shoe was now on the other foot. She asked what he wanted to do. Glen was worried that the kittens would freeze and die if he left them, so the decision was made to bring them home. Even though his energy levels were frequently low and he often felt sick because of the chemo, he committed to feeding, bathing and raising his babies. He was so proud of his part in their growth and found them to be an unending source of happiness and humour as each developed his/her own personality. While Wendy was away (working for High Prairie School Division), Glen would feed, play and nap with all his babies, cats and dogs included. There was barely room in his armchair for a quarter of the “fur population” (never mind Glen)- it became a daily race to see which cats/dogs got to snuggle with Dad! Glen’s babies made his last few years as meaningful and enjoyable as they could be. Those who knew Glen understood that when they visited, they were guests and the family fur babies were just that….part of the family (the furniture, the conversation, etc). As a tribute to Glen’s memory and his and Wendy’s love for all animals, especially those in need, both the High Prairie School Division Administrators and the staff of E.W. Pratt High School have made significant donations to In the Woods Animal Rescue. We hope this will help to support and save many more animals so they may be adopted to loving forever homes and provide meaning and companionship for their human parents and families. Glen would be proud!
