#IceBucketChallenge! I was called out by client Toni Finocchio to do the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, and my husband was called out by my brother, Matthew Flynn, so last night when I got home from work, my post-workout recovery was a cold ice water bath. AyCarambaOMGCccccccold! This challenge is to raise awareness - and funds - for ALS research! Critics say its gimmicky and serves only as free publicity for movie stars. I disagree. Get this.... So far, this challenge has raised a stunning $53.3 MILLION. (Last year at this time, donations were $2.2 million.) With your help, the ALS Association can support ALS families and continue doing research to find a cure. As far as publicity goes, this one is a hit! And thats AWESOME, because ALS is a horrible disease. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to death. This challenge works to spread awareness, and to inspire more people to donate by using a silly, yes, but effective community-building activity! We are proud to take part! We are happy to donate!
