Iditarod: Karin Hendrickson into Kaltag 10:35 AM (less than a minute ago) Karin just made it into Kaltag, looks like she moved up a spot to 34th to me. From here she will be leaving the Yukon River and heading west over the hills to the Bering Sea Coast town of Unalakleet, UNK for short for obvious reasons. The race is going to be 12 miles longer than usual due to the lack of sea ice. This is forcing the teams to stay on the coast instead of cutting across the Sound. The trail from UNK sounds like mud, brush, glare ice, and other solid material other than snow for the most part. Nicolas Petit scratched just east of UNK because his dogs started acting funny after he fed them a food they have never eaten before. He is going to get the dogs to a vet ASAP to see if he can figure out what is wrong with them.
