...If this agreement goes through as proposed, a teacher beginning their 9th year of teaching will be paid $1,100 LESS than a teacher who has just graduated from college.... Please dont let it be lost in the last post that every step on the 2015-16 scale is a being increased from the 2014 - 15 scale. In most cases it is equal to about a 2.5% increase after the proposed shift to their new steps. This fact has already been agreed and signed nearly three years ago (of course, contingent upon funding from the state and county - approximately $5 million in operating funds are needed to make this happen). The MAJOR issue is the fact that they are proposing that everyone be lowered by 2 STEPS, most notably the teachers completing their 1st - 8th years will all be dumped into STEP 1 with next years new hires. And actually be paid less than them because of their $1,100 New Teacher Add-On. LET ME REPEAT THAT: A teacher beginning their 9th year of teaching will be paid $1,100 LESS than a teacher who has just graduated from college. Ouch...
