#ImancipatedSahabiyat Khadijah (r.a) became convinced about the nobility of Muhammad ﷺ through Maysarah, (slave girl who accompanied him on the trade) and her cousin Waraqah bin Nawfal (a devout Christian well-versed in religious texts). Three months after Muhammads ﷺ return from as-Sham, Khadijah sent her friend Nafisah bint Umayyah to Muhammad ﷺ with a proposal for marriage. Muhammad ﷺ lived with his uncle Abu Tālib when Nafisah visited them. She said a few sentences of praise for Muhammad ﷺ and asked what he thought of marriage. In response, Muhammad ﷺ said that he did not have the resources to get married, and that he would get married when his resources allowed him to do so. It was as if Nafisah had expected this reply. She said why not marry an affluent lady who is noble and respected; upon which Muhammad ﷺ inquired who would marry him despite his limited resources. Nafisah said, Khadijah bint Khuwaylid. Sisters take note! He doesnt have to be established with multiple degrees to be suitable... Some reports suggest that 20 camels were offered as mahr, others state it was 500 dirhams of the time. And thats all it took for the marriage to be established—Khadijah being full of wisdom didnt demand a mountain of wealth, or a month long celebration of their wedding or unnecessary wastefulness despite being very well known among the society. In this lies a very important lesson for us because very few people across all centuries and societies have such a mentality. With Khadijah (r.a) at 40 years of age and Muhammad ﷺ at 25—a distinguished household blessed with peace and tranquility was born in Makkah. :)
