!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Important and Vital Information For Us All !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What Can We All Do To Remain Unhacked? - With the recent hacks effecting corporate leaders Apple and Sony, the possibility of being hacked is higher than ever. However, before you stress yourself out check out these simple precautions everyone should take in order to avoid hackers and keep your personal information intact. Better Passwords - Weak passwords are a hackers dream. Evaluate your passwords and avoid predictable passwords that include birth dates, names, addresses and other visible combinations. Stay away from generic passwords that are widely used. For stronger passwords utilize capital letters, numbers and symbols. Protect Those Who Have Your Data - If your personal or banking information is on your spouses computer, and their identity is compromised, be proactive and take recourse. Change your passwords, place fraud alerts on your bureaus and take other necessary precautions to keep your information safe. Just because your information wasnt hacked doesnt mean that its not accessible by association. Staying proactive is a must! Where’s Your Data? – With new age technology, it’s easy to lose track where your information actually is. Your first assumption, is that everything is on your phone. Well, you’re kind of right. As you and your devices become more connected, the information on the device exists in more than one place. For example, in regards to the iOS platform, images are stored on a data center in a place you don’t know and couldn’t ever get access to without a warrant. The same goes for other platforms like Google Drive, Dropbox and Facebook - anything you upload, no matter the privacy settings is stored on a computer you do not own and cannot directly access. The continued advances with social media, make everyone’s movements and personal information, for lack of better terms – shared. Don’t Click - Never click on a link you did not expect to receive or is not secure. Criminals infect PCs with malware by luring users to click on a link or open an attachment. Most phishing emails contain obvious spelling mistakes, poor grammar, discuss an inheritance or state they are from a different country. Use Common Judgment - Be mindful about the information you share on Facebook or Twitter and set your privacy settings. Do not accept social media invitations from people you dont know. Dont send your personal information via email or store card information for easy access. Always use good judgment and common sense.
