“In his quest for a church home he discovered another troubling matter. Their song services, messages, attitude, and even their smiles were all remarkably similar to each other. And none of what he experienced was reminiscent of the congregation that first introduced him to the Lord years ago. He had no idea what the common thread was but was positive there was a common thread. When he attended these churches he felt as though he had fallen into some other world, parallel to the one he once knew. The church was similar but not the same. There were elements of what he once had known that made it similar enough to deceive, and different enough to destroy. He wanted to find his way home. He realized that any group of people superficially looking like and acting like the church does not mean that the group is the church. To wear the name, ‘church’, without the reality of that which accompanies that name is fraudulent. To disassociate from the fraudulent is not to disassociate from the genuine. On the contrary, to continue to associate with the fraudulent is to deny the genuine. But where, where is the genuine to be found?” From Despair… at Amazon
