“In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war… David - TopicsExpress

“In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war… David remained in Jerusalem” (II Samuel 11:1a, 1c). David’s troubles stemmed from this one thing: he was where he shouldn’t have been. No structure in the city other than the palace was tall enough to look down on the other houses, yet David went out on the rooftop in the evening, the time when women would bathe on their own rooftops. Was his action intentional? No, he was merely taking a stroll. But he should have been with his army. So what happened? He looked; he saw; he lusted; and then he acted on that lust. Sin doesn’t pounce on you; it comes in increments, each one giving you an opportunity to turn back. David kept on going. And the price his family and others paid was astronomical. “Sin will take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you more than you want to pay.” (author unknown)
