***Influence and Illusion of Islamic Imperialism*** No one would disagree that Allama Dr. Muhammad Iqbal was one of the greatest thinkers of the twentieth century. Despite that, he could not shield himself from the influence and illusion of Islamic imperialism. That is why, I warned my fellow Sindhi youngsters in my earlier post on the Facebook: “Should Sindhi Youth Study the Poetry of Allama Dr. Muhammad Iqbal?”, that they should be mindful of getting trapped into the magic castle of Dr. Iqbal’s poety. Here is one example: In the following poem, Dr. Iqbal says: “Amal say zindagi banti hay, Jannat bhi, Jahanam bhi; Yeh khaki apni fitrat mein, na Noori hay na Naari hay.” … Iqbal TRANSLATION: “By action life may become both paradise and hell; This creature of dust (Human) in its nature is neither of light (Angel) nor of fire (Satan).” Here Dr. Iqbal believes that only human action determines our destiny. But, when his fellow Muslim emperors transgressed divine laws and created rebellion and violence in the society and caused their own downfall because of their impious actions and wrong doings, [For such people, Allah says in the Qur’an, in verse 89:11 “Al-azin, tagho fil bilad” = They consider themselves as gods = Being rebellious; and in verse 89:12 “Fa aksaroo fi hal fassad” = And majority of them caused rebellion and violence; and in verse 89:13 “Fa sab alaihim Rabbuk sott azzabin” = And so, your Lord chastised them with whipping punishment], Dr. Iqbal rather condemning such criminals, he consoles them and advises them that they should not worry about this. In reference to the downfall of Khilafat-e-Usmania (Ottoman Empire), read the following poem of Dr. Iqbal, and note how he consoles the criminals of Islam. “Agar Usmaniyon Par Koh-E-Gham Toota To Kya Gham Hai Ke Khoon-E-Sad Hazar Anjum Se Hoti Hai Sahar Paida” … Iqbal TRANSLATION: “If a mountain of grief collapsed upon the Ottomans, then why lament? For the dawn arises from the blood of a hundred thousand stars.”
