【Invitation for the 24th ICU Tournament 2015】 Dear Korean Debating Community, 안녕하세요! It is our pleasure to invite you all to the 24th ICU Tournament held in Tokyo, Japan from 11th to 13th of March 2015. ICU Tournament is the biggest and only international tournament held annually in Japan, which has continuously gathered debaters from various regions . We expect to see over 300 participants from varying nations competing in high quality debates throughout the tournament. Not only will debaters be able to enjoy debate itself, but will also get a chance to do sightseeing in Tokyo, one of the most attractive cities in the world. We are very proud to announce that this year, our Adjudication Core will be composed of Asias top debaters and adjudicators. With Kohei Arakawa from ICU(International Christian University) heading, we have Jesus Falcis from Philippines, and Prarthana Manohar from Singapore, Rafiq Saladdin from Malaysia, and one more adj core member is going to be welcomed soon. All adjudicators have extensive experiences in creating excellent tournaments of very high quality, and we promise you that this one would be too. ***** Details are as follows, Venue: Day 1-2, Day 3 Grand Final: International Christian University Day 3 Octo Finals-Semi Finals: Mitaka Kokaido (20minutes from ICU by bus&walk) Date: 11th(Wed.) - 13th(Fri.) of March 2015 *For International Participants: the check-in date for the hotel is March 10th(Tue.) and check-out date is March 14th(Sat). Tournament Cap: 70 teams Institutional Cap: None Debating Format: Asian Parliamentary Style (Gov.3 / Opp. 3) Qualification: University students, graduate school students, and graduates (High school students is not allowed to participate in ICU Tournament) Breaking System: Day 1, Day 2: 6 Preliminary Rounds Day 3: Break Rounds Number of breaking team:16 Adjudication Rule: N=1 Rule -You need to send 1 judge per 1 team. For example, if you send 3 teams, you need to send 3 judges. -This rule applies to both institutional teams and composite teams. Registration Fee: JPY31,000 per person (both debater and adjudicator) This includes: -4 nights accommodation *The check-in date is March 10th and check-out date is March 14th. -Breakfast of March 11th to 14th -Lunch of March 11th and 12th *Breaking debaters, breaking adjudicators will be offered 13th’s lunch in addition. -Transportation fee between the venue and hotel in Japan - Participation fee of casual dinner (with break announcement) There has been a raise in the registration fee. This is firstly because tax in Japan was raised in last April, and the price for accomodation went higher. In addition, we introduce subsidized adjudicator system for the first time in this tournament in order to improve the quality of adjudication pool. We appreciate your understanding. JPY 8,000 per person (both debater and adjudicator) This includes: -Lunch of March 11th and 12th *Breaking debaters, breaking adjudicators will be offered 13th’s lunch in addition. - Participation fee of casual dinner (with break announcement) ***** How to Register Phase 1: Registration Registration Period: Nov 1 2014 - Nov 15 2014 The link for registration will be uploaded on our official website and facebook page on 0:00 Japan time (GMT+9) of November 1st. During the registration period, all institutional teams, composite teams, and independent adjudicators are allowed to register. After the registration period closed, all of the registered institutions or individuals will get the email from us notifying that whether you got slot or are in the waiting list. Phase 2: Payment Once receiving the notice of slot confirmation from us, all participants must pay the full fee (International: JPY31,000 /Domestic: JPY8,000) for the tournament in Nov 23 to Dec 6 2014. Since bank transfer fee is not included in the registration fee, please make sure to add bank transfer fee to your payment. Failure to do so will result in the teams/adjudicators losing their slots. Specify your date of transfer and total amount. We will not be able to confirm your payment without the copy of your transfer slip, as it will serve as payment evidence. 4. Only Bank Transfers will be accepted. 5. Any withdrawal after the payment period will not be accepted. This means that once you pay the registration fee, we cannot pay you the fee back even if you would like to cancel the participation for ICU Tournament. 6. All transaction/conversion charges must be accepted by the payee. Upon receiving your Registration Fees and the above document, we will send you an e-mail confirmation. ***** Phase 3: Participants Details Upon receiving your Registration Fees and the payment proof, we will send you the form of Participants Details.
