Israeli born physicist, Professor Dror Fixler, who is 44 years of age, of Bar-Ilan University, has developed a quicker way of diagnosing cancer in humans using a liquid mixture containing the metal gold that is contained within the solution. An optical system that is both non-invasive and has no exposure to radiation can be used in the early detection of cancer of the head, neck and oral cavities, in humans and animals. More specifically, it has detected cancerous growths on the tongue, throat & larynx. All a patient does is to gargle the solution for several minutes using the mixture in question, which includes nanoparticles of gold. The particles of gold ‘paint’ the cancer cells so as to make them visually discernible. This is achieved by using a specially designed optical scanning tool which the examining doctor views on a computer screen. Professor Fixler has said that this method is not equal with a patient’s biopsy, but they have had a diagnostic success rate in excess of 90%. The earlier that any cancer can be detected and diagnosed, can increase the survival rate of patients.
