-It could not have been easy for Martha, a proactive, get-the-job-done, hardworking disciple of Jesus to be consistently upstaged by Mary who seemed to be a relaxed, leave-it-alone, probably even slightly lazy disciple of Jesus. If Mary was even a bit lazy, she should not have been, and she does not get credit for that. However, she is given credit by Jesus because of her attitude and actions of worship. Jesus does not condemn Martha, but He commends Mary. There is no doubt that there is much work to be done. Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few.” (Matthew 9:37). However the message of Jesus is that if forced to choose, He would prefer a worshiper to a worker. Ideally He wants a worshiper who is a worker. May God help us to worship Him in our work, and never let our work hinder our worship of Jesus.
