"It is sad indeed that the majority of Orthodox Christians do not - TopicsExpress

"It is sad indeed that the majority of Orthodox Christians do not know why they are Christians, and indeed Orthodox Christians; nor do they know what the Holy Orthodox Church, to which they belong and are members of, believes and teaches. Nor do they know what they themselves believe as Orthodox Christians. Of course it is quite possible that they may not know what they are saying or understand the meaning of the articles of the Creed they are reciting. If we were to ask them, "Why are you Orthodox Christians and now members of the Roman Catholic or the Anglican Church?" they would not be able to answer us. And if they did supply us with the answer it would in all likelihood be the standard: "Because I was born an Orthodox". In other words, what they would be trying to tell us is that they are Orthodox by descent - "because my parents were" - and not by conviction. They tell us that they are Orthodox but do not - because they cannot- explain how and why they are Orthodox Christians and not Roman Catholics or Protestants." - Our Orthodox Christian Faith by Athanasios S.
