It was an honour to stand together with many hundreds to protect - TopicsExpress

It was an honour to stand together with many hundreds to protect the conservation area on Burnaby Mountain. Mayor Derek Corrigan is an inspiring leader and a great speaker; he said that all the votes on this issue have been unanimous, a tribute to the councillors. In a quiet voice he described how the City of Burnaby purchased the land, and then held a referendum where the public voted to create the conservation area. And now this foreign-owned corporation, with the collusion of our federal government, is in there cutting trees down, against the city bylaws. He told us that the National Energy Board paid Kinder Morgan $135 million to assist them with their application process. You always hear how capitalists pride themselves on making money and not taking government handouts? Well thats just not true. It was great to hear Grand Chief Stewart Phillips, MP Kennedy Stewart, and Tsleil waututh speaker Carleen Thomas, and singers Shannon Matter and Glenn Loft. Thank you to Eddie Gardner for standing with me and playing his magnificent drum on Skin Drum, and to Douglas Gook for leading the chant... that was so much fun! Thanks to Shirley Samples, Ruth Walmsley, Stephen Collis and the team for organizing the rally. Thank you Devin Gillan and John Prentice for filming and documenting this important historic event. The tide has turned. I am very proud to have been part of this rally, and standing together with like minds and warm hearts to make a creative, stubborn and loving effort to turn this Titanic. The awakening is on. Our commUNITY is growing in energy and strength. I felt it. Way to go Burnaby! https://youtube/watch? v=6bNVoKNfpxI&index=1&list=UUXVvxLkc_m7IzXoDn8tl8zQ The song that you played with Eddie Gardner as he drummed and you sang.....I got goose bumps and I will not forget that moment. Thank you for raising our spirits to the sky! Yes, the tide has turned as people with like minds and hearts come together and say NO WAY to oil tankers on the Salish Sea!
