(Ithaca, New York) During the week of September 14th, families in nine New York Counties will learn how to make healthy food choices on a limited budget, through free interactive Cooking Matters at the Store tours. Offered through a partnership of Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Eat Smart New York/SNAP-Ed programs and Share our Strength’s No Kid Hungry program, the Cooking Matters at the Store tours pair small groups of participants with a nutrition educator, who will show them how to compare unit prices, purchase fruits and vegetables on a budget, read food labels, and pick out whole grains. Participants will receive a $10 gift card to spend on healthy groceries at the conclusion of the tour. The program aims to create lasting changes in food shopping habits by offering a dynamic in-store learning experience that empowers families with limited resources to stretch their food dollars.
