‘It’s dreadful what little things lead people to misunderstand - TopicsExpress

‘It’s dreadful what little things lead people to misunderstand each other’. This is just a tiny clarification for what happened yesterday. It all started with my wanting to post something which I thought not everybody would be interested to see or read. So I spent a sizeable amount of time and energy creating specific groups. In one such group I chose all the Sulebrities and bound them with a name-, what else but ‘Sulekha’. Immediately I received a message from Rajavel Manoharan - ‘You’ve ‘suggested’ that I worked for Sulekha, but I haven’t. I just wrote for them’. That immediately rang a bell. A few months back even my profile was changed with a message that showed that I ‘worked’ for Sulekha. And even I had wondered (in Meghanaa’s words) ‘how can voluntary disclosure of emotions in thousand words or more be work...especially when its not paid?’ :-P So I immediately posted a clarification in that group and there was a tremendous response- some funny, some very funny, some hilarious! But then it also got me thinking. I have made other groups too. My school and college friends, which I named after the school or college. My Railway friends which I named what else but ‘Railways’. My family which I named ‘White House’ (because that’s what we know it as. In fact we even have a whattapp group called White House News). And a miscellaneous group which I called OMG. All this was purely for MY convenience. How was I to know that people will also be notified? Anyway, I don’t think my school/college friends will mind if they receive a message saying that ‘Nargis has suggested that you studied here or there’. In fact that would make them nostalgic. What I’m worried about is the others. After all, who am I to suggest or send reminders to some of the Seniors, of their present or past job status? So all the Railway Officials (and their non-working spouses), in case you receive a message saying ‘Nargis has suggested you worked for Railways’, please don’t blame me for reminding what you already know. Blame Facebook. And all my lovely family members, if you receive a message saying ‘Nargis has suggested you worked for the White House’, don’t get all excited and start clarifying with Obama ;-) And the others, if you receive a message saying, ‘Nargis has suggested you worked for OMG’, please don’t swear in the name of God and send me back a message saying- ‘But I’ve never worked in this prestigious organization before!’ It’s just my way of keeping a tab on the ‘Other Miscellaneous Group’. I know all my friends are wonderful sports. But, had I not received that message, I’d never have known about my ‘suggestions’. And if I’d never know about it, there would be no clarification. And if there’d be no clarification, there is a slight chance that a silent someone, somewhere in my friend’s list might just develop a teeny weeny misunderstanding. And one day, this little bittle misunderstanding might just develop into something more brittle. And a day later, that fragile mix-up might just escalate into a ‘breaking’ news. Like they say, ‘A single moment of misunderstanding is so poisonous that it immediately makes you forget the hundred lovable moments spent together.’ I sure wouldn’t want anything like that!
